This was a significant project as my clients bought three apartments and knocked them into one very large and very special apartment.
It was the third project I have worked on with them, having helped on a new build of their home in Greenlane, and then a renovation of their beach house in Whangaparaoa. I know and understand their style well, and they have an eclectic mix of art to take into consideration. We worked together on colours, furniture, fabrics, window treatments, bathrooms, kitchen and much more. Even though there was interior design consultation with the building company’s designer included in their contract, they preferred to pay to have me help them with their new home.
The feeling in the apartment is light and spacious, and despite its size, the layout means it feels to scale with the people living there. Some of the furniture came from their previous home and some was purchased new through my manufacturers and suppliers here in Auckland. We sourced some fabulous accessories including lamp bases for the main bedroom that are old metal wallpaper printing cylinders. Curtains and blinds were important here where the view is dominant. We didn’t want to detract from the view, so chose fabrics that allowed the eye to travel outside, whilst still having a feeling of luxury, particularly in the main bedroom.
“With so many decisions to make and wanting to get them right, it was certainly a no-brainer for me to work with Gaye on this project.
From the kitchen chairs, the perfect comfy choice with fabric that tied in all my colours, to the powder room, combo of honeycomb tiles, Italian screen & planter, dark “oak” cabinetry and birdcage light fitting – I loved how everything came together. The whole process was inclusive and at no point did it feel like it was Gaye’s project.”
